# Meeting Types

> Create a setup for each kind of meeting you run: what Echo does during the call, what it checks for, and how it writes the notes.

A Meeting Type is a saved setup for one kind of meeting, such as a sales call, an interview or a weekly check-in. Pick it when you start a meeting and everything loads in one go: which live help is on, the checklist, FAQ Answers and the shape of the notes.

## The ones Echo gives you

| Meeting Type | Good for | Notes include |
| - | - | - |
| **General meeting** | Anything without a fixed structure. The default | Summary, Key discussion points, Decisions, Action items, Open questions and risks |
| **Candidate interview** (Recruiting) | Interviews | Recommendation, Scorecard and supporting evidence |
| **Client briefing** (Recruiting) | Understanding a client's role and hiring needs | Summary, role requirements, decisions and actions |
| **Trip consultation** (Travel advisor) | Understanding the client's trip | Preferences, constraints and next steps |
| **Itinerary review** (Travel advisor) | Reviewing a proposed trip | Decisions, travel logistics and follow-up |

The default catalog follows **Work type**. Echo preserves Meeting Types you created, customized or used, so an older account may retain Discovery Call, Client intake or Hiring manager debrief. Client intake was renamed Client briefing. See [Client briefings and hiring manager debriefs](https://docs.callecho.ai/tracks/recruiting/client-meetings.md).

Live modules in the current defaults, including **Checklist**, Questions to ask and FAQ Answers, are off until you switch them on. A saved checklist can contain topics even while its live module is off. Preserved or customized types keep their settings. Live Assist and live Claim Check are disabled and hidden in desktop 0.1.87; existing settings remain saved.

Review the checklist and modules on your actual Meeting Type before capture; preserved and customized types can differ from the defaults above.

The screenshot shows an earlier catalog. In desktop 0.1.87, **Set up with Echo** can propose additional Meeting Types and Final Notes instructions for your own meetings. See [Install and set up](https://docs.callecho.ai/get-started/install.md).

## Create a Meeting Type

1. Open **Settings › Meeting types** and select **New**. You can also pick **New meeting type** in the Meeting type list during setup.
2. Under **Name and default mode**, name it, for example "Quarterly business review", and choose **Remote** or **In-person** as the **Default capture mode**. Pick a color dot to spot it in lists.
3. Under **What Echo does**, switch on what you want during the meeting (below).
4. Review it and select **Save meeting type**.

## What Echo does

| Part | What it does | Starts |
| - | - | - |
| **Precall Brief** | A brief from earlier meetings with the same people | Always on |
| **Questions to ask** | Questions drafted before the meeting and graded during it | Off |
| **FAQ Answers** | Shows your reviewed answer when a known question comes up | Off |
| **Checklist** | The **Rubric items** you list, with evidence on request and after the meeting | Off in current defaults; opt in per type |
| **Final Notes** | The notes after the meeting | Always on |

See [Turn on live help](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/live-help.md) for how each one behaves during a call.

### Write the checklist

Under **Checklist**, list one topic per line in **Rubric items**, for example:

```text theme={null}
Budget and who approves it
Current tools and what's not working
Timeline and deadlines
Decision process
Next steps
```

### Import FAQ Answers

Switch on **FAQ Answers**, then select **Import Q/A document** and choose a TXT, Markdown, PDF or Word (.docx) file with questions and answers. Review the entries Echo found and fix any that came through wrong. You can save up to 100 entries.

## Tell Echo how to write

Two parts take your own instructions, called guidelines. Each starts on **Echo defaults** and shows **Customized** once you've written something.

| Guideline | Changes | Example |
| - | - | - |
| **How Echo briefs you** | The Precall Brief | "Lead with what each side still owes. Keep it to three lines." |
| **How Echo writes the wrap** | The AI Notes | "Add a section called Risks. Write the follow-up email in a friendly, short tone." |

Guidelines tune what Echo includes and how it phrases it. When a guideline conflicts with Echo's own rules for that output, Echo's rules win.

Changes apply to meetings you start after saving. To apply new note guidelines to an earlier meeting, open it and select **Regenerate notes**.

## Change or delete a type

Open a type from **Settings › Meeting types**, change it, and select **Save changes**. Types you can delete show a trash icon in the list. Past meetings keep the checklist they were recorded with, even after you edit the type.
