# Import a recording

> Turn an audio or video file of a past meeting into a transcript and AI Notes.

If you recorded a call with another tool or on your phone's voice recorder, import the file. Echo treats it like any other meeting: transcript, AI Notes, tasks and a place in your briefs.

1. Select **New meeting** in the sidebar, then **Upload audio**.
2. Drop the file on the page, or click to browse. Echo accepts MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC, OGG, WebM and MP4 files up to 100 MB.
3. Choose the **Meeting type** and **Language**. Open **More options** to set the **Title**, **Date** and **Participants**; Echo writes a title if you leave it empty.
4. Select **Start processing**.

![Echo's Import recording form with a drop zone for an audio file, the meeting type and language, and Start processing.](https://mintcdn.com/callecho/3msX5gJvFFZ4hlDx/images/meetings/import-recording-v1.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=3msX5gJvFFZ4hlDx\&q=85\&s=26fea4bb907369c7021097fb676ab601)

Echo shows progress while it transcribes and writes the notes. You can leave the page; the meeting appears in **Notes** (filter by **Imported** to find it), and you can retry if processing fails.

> [!TIP]
>
> Pick the right Meeting Type before you start. It decides the shape of the notes, the same as for a live meeting.
