# Use the live window

> What you see during a meeting: Echo's card, your notes page, the transcript, Ask Echo and the controls to pause or end.

When a meeting starts, Echo opens a meeting window beside your call. It follows one rule: if it's in the card, it's from Echo; if it's on the page, it's yours.

## Echo's card

When Questions to ask is on, the card at the top shows the next question or a follow-up for an incomplete answer. Small counters such as **3/5 answered** open the Questions to ask panel. See [Turn on live help](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/live-help.md).

Live Assist's automatic suggestions and live Claim Check are disabled and hidden in desktop 0.1.87. Ask Echo, the transcript and recording remain available.

## Your notes page

Type on the ruled page below the card. These are your own notes. Echo keeps them with the meeting as the **Scratchpad**, separate from the AI Notes it writes after the call.

## The transcript

Select **Peek transcript** in the bottom bar to see the transcript as it's written. It follows the newest line until you scroll up. Drag its top edge to make it taller.

With live translation on, this panel shows translated captions. Select **Show original** to read the original transcript. See [Read live translation](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/live-translation.md).

In online meetings Echo labels your microphone as you and numbers the other voices. In some meeting apps Echo can show who is speaking by name: Google Meet in a browser, and the Microsoft Teams app on a Mac or Teams in a Chromium browser on Windows. See [Supported platforms](https://docs.callecho.ai/reference/platforms.md). On a Mac this needs the Accessibility permission: open **Settings › Audio** and select **Open Settings** under **Platform Bridge** if it says **Needs access**. Voices Echo can't name keep their numbered label, and you can name them after the meeting.

## Ask Echo during the meeting

Type a question in **Ask Echo…** in the bottom bar. Echo answers in a sentence or a few, and labels where the answer came from: **Meeting context:** for this meeting and what Echo already knows from your meetings, **General knowledge:** for anything else.

Good questions to ask mid-call:

* "What did she say the budget was?"
* "Have we covered next steps?"
* "Summarize the last five minutes."

The Meeting Nub has the same Ask Echo with one-click Quick Actions. See [The Meeting Nub and Quick Actions](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/meeting-nub.md).

## Microphone and computer audio

The green level bars show that Echo hears your microphone. Select them to pick another microphone for this meeting, or **System default** to follow your computer's setting. The microphone icon next to them mutes you in Echo's transcript, not in the call.

If Echo hears nothing from the other side for a while, it shows **Computer audio is quiet**. That can mean nobody has spoken yet. On Windows, if your call app plays through a specific speaker or headset, choose the same one under **Computer audio** in the Meeting Nub's controls.

## Pause and end

Select the red recording pill to **Pause recording** or **End meeting**. While paused, Echo neither transcribes nor records.

Echo also ends on its own in two cases:

* **You leave a Google Meet call (Mac).** In a supported browser on a Mac, Echo shows **Meeting ended** and wraps up after a 10-second countdown. Select **Keep recording** to stay. For other calls, end the meeting yourself.
* **Nobody speaks.** After 18 minutes without speech, Echo asks **Still in a meeting?** and ends 2 minutes later unless you select **Keep recording**.

After you end, Echo saves the transcript and writes the AI Notes. See [Review your notes](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/ai-notes.md).

## Screenshots and files

To keep a slide or a shared screen, select **Take screenshot and save to meeting** in the live window. You can also add files up to 20 MB. Attachments are private to you and aren't added to the notes. Echo sends one to AI only if you pick it, for example as the CV in CV Out.

> [!NOTE]
>
> If you don't see **Take screenshot and save to meeting**, update Echo to the latest version.
