# Troubleshooting

> Fixes for the most common problems: missing audio, missing speaker names, empty briefs, sign-in and Echo Agent.

## Echo doesn't hear the other side

> [accordion] The transcript only has your voice
>
> Check that the meeting was set to **Online meeting**, not **In person**. In person records the microphone only.
>
> On a Mac, open **System Settings › Privacy & Security › Screen & System Audio Recording** (**Screen Recording** on macOS 14) and make sure Echo is on. Echo needs this to record your computer's audio.
>
> On Windows, open **More controls** in the Meeting Nub and set **Computer audio** to the speaker or headset your call app plays through.

> [accordion] Echo says Computer audio is quiet
>
> That's a notice, not an error. It can mean nobody has spoken yet, or that you're in a waiting room. If people are talking and Echo still shows it, check the steps above.

> [accordion] Echo didn't offer to start when the call began
>
> Echo only prompts for some calls; see [Supported platforms](https://docs.callecho.ai/reference/platforms.md). Start the meeting yourself from Home, the brief page or **New meeting**.

## Speaker names are missing

> [accordion] Everyone shows as a numbered speaker
>
> Echo names speakers only in some apps: Google Meet in a browser, and the Teams app on a Mac or Teams in a Chromium browser on Windows. Firefox isn't supported. On a Mac, open **Settings › Audio** and, under **Platform Bridge**, select **Open Settings** if it says **Needs access**, then allow Echo under Accessibility.
>
> You can always name speakers after the meeting. See [Transcript, speakers and recordings](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/transcript-and-speakers.md).

## Briefs and notes

> [accordion] A meeting has no brief, or the brief is empty
>
> Briefs come from earlier meetings with the same people, so a first meeting has little to go on. Check that your calendar is connected and that the event has attendees. For a group meeting, matching on people needs at least two attendees from an earlier meeting; Echo also uses the same recurring series or client company.

> [accordion] The notes didn't appear
>
> If you see **Notes generation failed**, your transcript is still saved. Select **Regenerate notes** on the meeting. If the meeting has no transcript but has a recording, select **Create transcript from recording**.

> [accordion] A name is spelled wrong everywhere
>
> In the meeting's Ask Echo box, type the fix, for example "Change NetSys to Natixis", and confirm. To prevent it next time, add the name to **Internal jargon** in **Settings › Audio**.

> [accordion] Live help doesn't show anything
>
> Live help is off by default. Switch it on for the Meeting Type in **Settings › Meeting types**. See [Turn on live help](https://docs.callecho.ai/meetings/live-help.md).

## Echo Agent

> [accordion] The first question is taking a long time
>
> Your first question sets up your agent and can take a couple of minutes. Later questions start much faster.

> [accordion] It says Your agent stopped responding
>
> Echo heard nothing from your agent for 40 minutes. Send your request again.

> [accordion] A download link doesn't work
>
> Links expire after a day. Ask Echo for a new link in the same conversation.

> [accordion] Files won't attach
>
> Attachments only work while every source is on. Open **Sources** and switch them all back on. Each question takes up to 4 files of 20 MB each.

## Sign-in and updates

> [accordion] Sign-in doesn't come back from the browser
>
> Return to Echo and select **Email a sign-in code** instead. Enter the 6-digit code from the email.

> [accordion] macOS keeps asking about Chromium Safe Storage
>
> Choose **Always Allow**. Echo keeps calendar sign-ins in your Mac's encrypted storage, and choosing Deny can pause calendar sync.

> [accordion] Windows says Windows protected your PC
>
> Select **More info**, then **Run anyway** to finish installing.

> [accordion] Echo says Update required
>
> A newer version is required to keep using Echo. Select **Download and install**, then **Relaunch now**.
