Echo Agent is where you talk to Echo between meetings. Ask it what someone said three calls ago, or hand it a job that ends in a document, such as a proposal built from your calls, a shortlist or a formatted CV. It works through your meetings, the files you give it and the web, step by step, then hands you the result.
Echo Agent was called Ask Echo in earlier versions. If your sidebar still says Ask Echo, update Echo to the latest version.

Start a conversation

Select Echo Agent in the sidebar. A new conversation asks What’s next?
A new Echo Agent conversation: 'What's next?' above the box for a question or a task, with Prepare my day, Summarize a meeting and Review action items as starters.
Type a question or describe the work, then press Enter. Shift Enter starts a new line. Under the composer are a few suggestions for your track. Some ask straight away; others put the start of a request in the box for you to finish, like “Plan an itinerary for this trip: ”. Your first question sets up your agent, which can take a couple of minutes. After that, answers start in seconds.

Watch it work

For bigger jobs Echo shows what it’s doing right now, such as searching your meetings or reading a file. Released desktop versions let you open Activity to see each step.
Release pending — the next desktop interface keeps the working message above a compact step count. Open the count to see the steps; it starts closed. A failed request keeps its error and step history with the question. As of October 27, 2026, this interface is awaiting desktop release. See Release status.
An Echo Agent conversation: the request to draft the Northstar proposal from the calls and internal meetings, and Echo's answer handing over the proposal as a Word file with a Download file link.
Long research can take a while, and Echo checks in every few minutes so you know it’s still going. You can start another conversation in the meantime; conversations run side by side. To change course, send a new message in the same conversation. It replaces the request that’s running.

Give it files

Select the paperclip (Add context in a new conversation), paste, or drag files onto the conversation. You can attach up to 4 files per question, 20 MB each: PDF, Word, Excel, text, Markdown, CSV, JSON, images (PNG, JPG, GIF, WebP), audio (MP3, M4A, WAV, OGG) and video (MP4, WebM).

Get files back

When the answer is a document, Echo makes the file and gives you a Download file link in the answer. It can make Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PDF, PNG images and simple web pages. Download links expire after a day; ask Echo for a new link if you need the file again. Some answers come as tables, forms or buttons you can click. Select Open panel to view a large one beside the conversation.

Choose what it searches

Echo Agent's Sources menu with switches for Notion and for your meetings.
Select Sources to choose what Echo uses: Meetings (your meeting history) and Notion (Notion pages saved to Echo’s memory). Both are on by default. Public Product Help remains available independently of these private sources. A source you switch off stays off until you switch it back on. While any source is off, questions start without the earlier conversation and can’t use attachments, web search, file-making or connected apps. Switch every source back on to return to normal. That restriction does not disable every Echo record edit. With the record-editing tools in desktop 0.1.87, turning Notion off still allows supported changes to your Echo records. Turning Meetings off blocks meeting operations and tasks derived from those meetings; tasks you explicitly created and supported account settings remain independent. Contacts that combine several sources stay unavailable in restricted turns.

Organize conversations

The sidebar keeps every conversation.
The Echo Agent sidebar with Scheduled tasks, New topic, the Northstar rollout and Halden search topics with their conversations, and Ungrouped conversations.
  • Select New message to start a conversation.
  • In earlier desktop versions, select New topic to group conversations, for example one topic per client. Drag a conversation onto a topic, or use Move conversation. Topics only organize; they don’t change what Echo can see.
  • Hover a conversation to rename it (pencil) or delete it (trash). Deleting happens at once. Its menu has Move conversation.
  • A blue dot marks an answer you haven’t read. A pulsing dot means Echo is still working.
The screenshot shows the earlier sidebar. In the current desktop sidebar, New message starts a conversation and the Groupings heading has the add control for a topic.

Schedule something for later

Ask Echo to do something at a set time, for example “Tomorrow at 8am, list the open items for my Northstar call.” Scheduled tasks in the sidebar shows what’s coming up and when it will run, in your time zone.
If you don’t see Scheduled tasks in the sidebar, update Echo to the latest version.

Echo Agent on other apps

The phone app has Echo Agent too, and your conversations carry across. You can also message Echo from WhatsApp and Telegram; those chats stay in those apps. See Use Echo anywhere.

Ask about a person

On a contact’s record, select Ask Echo or Draft follow-up. Echo Agent opens with a ready-made question about that person in the composer, for you to edit and send.

What Echo Agent won’t do

Echo Agent drafts; you send. It doesn’t send email, post messages or book anything on its own. When it needs to act in an app you connected, it asks you to approve that exact action first. See Connect apps.
