Use live translation when people speak a language you don’t read comfortably. Echo shows translated captions during the meeting.

Turn on live translation

  1. In the Meeting Nub, select More controls (⋮).
  2. Turn on Live translation. Echo starts with English.
  3. To read another language, choose it under Language in the same menu.
Echo detects the spoken languages automatically, including when speakers switch languages. You don’t need to select an input language. Translation starts with incoming speech after you turn it on. Echo doesn’t translate the earlier transcript.

Read the captions

The Transcript panel in the Meeting Nub and the live window opens with the translation. Its heading shows the chosen language, such as “Transcript · English”. Select Show original to read the original transcript. Select Show translation to return to the captions. You can change Language or turn Live translation off during the meeting. Changing the language clears the current captions and starts translating incoming speech into the new language. If translation is unavailable, select Retry in the Transcript panel. Echo continues transcribing while translation is unavailable.

Review the meeting afterward

Live translation is for reading during the meeting. Echo doesn’t save the translated captions. The saved transcript keeps the original speech. Echo uses that original transcript for AI Notes and Memory.
